Place the meat substitute strips in a bowl and cover with boiling water. Let sit for 10-20 minutes. Squeeze as much water out of the strips as you can and mix with the remaining ingredients and set aside.

Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan. Add the meat substitute and fry until it starts to crisp. Add onions, garlic and mushrooms and fry until the onions turn translucent.

Mix the starch with cold water and prepare the rice according to the package instructions.
