Peel the garlic and add into a bowl alongside the olive oil and, basil and set aside.
Finely chop the onion.
Prepare the pasta according to the package instructions. Save a cup of pasta water.
Heat a pot over medium heat. Add the oil, garlic, and basil. Fry until the garlic is golden brown. Remove the basil as soon as it starts to wilt. Set aside.
Add the onions into the pot and fry until the onions turn translucent. Add the tomatoes and let simmer on low heat for around 30 minutes. Blend with an immersion blender or in a blender.
Finley chop the basil and add into the sauce.
if needed add a bit of pasta water into to pot. Serve the pasta with sauce, parmesan and pepper.
